Engadget reported today that the new Windows Phone 7 doesn’t have cut and paste…
Here are some facts:
- No one complained that the iPhone itself didn’t have CUT/COPY/PASTE until March 2009.. It was such a “revolutionary device” and with the Apps no one cared. In fact without cut and paste the iphone overtook windows mobile and every other smart phone in the industry.. The Windows Phone won’t be out or finished until Holiday 2010 so it’s just a little early to be making this criticism.
- The iPhoneOS didn't get cut/copy/paste until VERSION 3.0 of their OS, several years after 1.0 (actually it happened around March 2009). Do you think that not having cut and paste really matters all that much on an OS designed for thumbs and fingers. This is not a PC and with a touch screen you aren't going to be EDITING large amounts of TEXT... I am going to tell you not having this didn't stop Apple from gaining marketshare on every other SMARTPHONE (including the old Windows Mobile that had it)..
- I don't think it's fair either that the press is pointing this out when you don't know for sure if they will add it in OR won't add it in. The actual phones aren't due out until holidays 09..
- Have you ever tried to cut and paste with your fingers on a phone anyway? Believe me it's not something you want to do. In the old windows mobile OS most devices came with a stylus because even with cut and paste and the small type size you couldn't DO this with your fingers, making it very inconvenient and something you could do with one hand.. Even now I can't use their feature for this very well at all. It takes me a few tries with my fat fingers. It also is difficult with small type..
- You weren't this negative about this with the iPhone. I think you are being a LITTLE bit unfair to Microsoft, especially when you gave the iPhone a "pass" on this in your reporting early. Plus the fact that you are talking about an OS that isn't on a real DEVICE yet, it's just being introduced as a Community Technical Preview on an emulator.. It wont be available publicly until holidays 2010. There would be plenty of time for this to add it if needed. Apple didn't add this feature for years and I doubt many people use it right now..
- Having said all of that why aren't you talking about how cool entering text on the new keyboard is and how hard it is to type a character wrong. This was introduced on the zune hd web browser.
