Things this announcement does *NOT* say

  • GO OUT and LEARN HTML 5, we are putting all of you .NET programmers out to pasture.
  • HTML 5 is the one and ONLY preferred way of programming apps..
  • The Windows 7 interface is gone and there is no “Classic” mode..
  • Microsoft is giving up on .NET Applications
  • You have to use the new interface even though you prefer the old one.

Things Microsoft *HAS* said about Windows 8
  • There will be just one version of Windows 8 that will run across devices (PCs, Tablets, Phones)
  • HTML 5 apps will run along side Windows 8 .NET applications (think: Office 365, Google apps, etc.) in the new interface.
  • .NET Applications will be treated like “first class” citizens in Windows 8
  • Windows Phone “Mango” update has an HTML 5 immersive internet browser. Windows 8 has an immersive internet browser as well.
